One way to punch in to the uAttend system is via the web, using the URL that you set up when you created your uAttend account. When employees punch in via the web, they will simply log in and click the In or Out button to punch in or out. For more information, see Punching In Using the Web.

For users who will punch in via the web, the administrator must first turn on the web punching feature within the user's profile. Follow these steps:

    1. Click the Users tab on the main menu.

    2. Select the user's name from the list.

    3. In the Username/Password section, click the Edit link.

    4. Enter a username and password for this user, then click Save.

The user will punch in and out using this username and password.

    5. Click the Employee Services link.

    8. Select Yes, then click Save.

    Adding IP Addresses

The IP addresses feature is an optional feature that allows you to specify the location(s) from which your employees can punch in and out through an Internet browser. For example, if you enter your office IP address range, you are ensuring that your employees can only punch in and out from that location.

To add a new IP address, follow these steps:

    1. Click the Settings tab on the main menu.

    2. Click the Punch Management link.

    3. Scroll down to the IP Addresses section and click Add IP Address.

The system will automatically detect the first two sets of numbers based on your current location.

    4. Make any changes necessary, then name the IP address range (e.g., “Dallas Office”).

    5. Click Add.

Administrators can set PINs for employees to use when they punch in/out using a time clock or the touch-tone phoneservice. If you are using a time clock with a fingerprint scanner, please note that there is a segment of the population with fingerprints that will not record. These users can still use the time clocks to punch in and out by using a PIN. If you are using a time clock with an RFID card scanner, you can choose to have employees punch in using a PIN instead. PINs are required for employees who punch in/out using the touch-tone phone service.

To set a PIN for a user, follow these steps:

    1. Click the Users tab on the main menu.

    2. Select the user's name from the list.

    3. Click the Punch Management link.

    4. Click the Edit link to activate the PIN Number field.

    5. Enter a unique 4-digit PIN for the user, then click Save.

To set up users for punching in on a time clock with an RFID card (or badge) scanner, follow these steps:

    1. Click the Users tab on the main menu.

    2. Select the user's name from the list.

    3. Click the Punch Management link.

    4. On the user's profile, click the Edit link in the Badge Number section.

    5. Enter the 10-digit badge number that appears on the RFID card.

    6. Click Save.

Adding a Fingerprint Template for an Employee

This article will walk you through the steps involved with setting up a fingerprint template for an Employee.  There are 2 basic steps that can be done in either order: Assigning a Fingerprint ID in the Web Portal and Registering a Fingerprint ID at the Time Clock.  However, this article will address them in the generally preferred order.

*Note – In the following steps, a 6-digit number will be used to match an Employee with their fingerprint.  Therefore, each fingerprint ID must be unique.  After a fingerprint has been successfully assigned and registered, this number will not be used when interacting with the clock or portal.  The Employee will not need to know this number, as they will not use it to punch at the clock.  They will only need to place their finger on the scanner for identification when punching at the clock.  (One way to generate this number might be to start with 100000 and simply +1 for every new Fingerprint ID needed. Ex. 100001, 100002, etc. Forgot the last number you assigned?  Resume with 200000, 200001, etc.)

Assigning a Fingerprint ID in the Web Portal

    For Existing Employees

    1. Log in to the uAttend web portal as an Administrator or Supervisor with Employee edit rights.
    2. Click on the Users tab
    3. Select the Employee from the Users list by clicking on their name.
    4. Click on that User’s Punch Management tab.
    5. Locate the line the reads “Fingerprint ID” and click EDIT to the right of that line.

The Bio-metric Data Disclosure agreement will trigger and require the following steps:

    1. Check the confirmation box stating that the sample compliance consent agreement was provided to you.
    2. Enter the Administrator account's initials to advance to the next section.
    3. Confirm one of the two options stating that you have either obtained consent or that it is not required. One of these two must be chosen to advance.
    4. Check the box to agree and accept the terms of the agreement.
    5. Enter the name exactly as listed (Administrator's name) and press 'Accept'.

If you are having trouble Accepting the Agreement, click here to go to the How to Accept the new Bio-metric Compliance Agreement Help File.

    1. Enter a unique 6-digit number to be used as the fingerprint ID and SAVE.
    2. Add additional IDs, to register up to 5 different fingerprints per Employee, by repeating the previous steps on the lines for Fingerprint ID 2-5.

*Tip – Set each Employee up with a fingerprint template for each hand.  It is nice to have a back-up for redundancy or convenience, when carrying objects or wearing a cast or glove due to injury.  Alternatively, a PIN number can also be assigned by entering a unique 4-digit number on the line that reads “PIN Number” to allow an Employee to enter their 4-digit PIN number for identification when punching at the clock.

    7. You should now have a printed list of the Employees with their Fingerprint ID’s to refer to when registering the fingerprints at the time clock.

Registering a Fingerprint ID at the Time Clock

    1. Press the MENU button on your BN series uAttend time clock.
    2. Enter the access password and press OK. 53178 is the default password (If changed to an unknown password, reset to default following this path on the clock: MENU (31468912) - User Management - Change Password).

Click here to go to the Time Clock Features Help File.

    1. Press OK to enter USER MANAGEMENT.
    2. Press OK to select ADD USER.
    3. Enter the same 6-digit numerical Fingerprint ID assigned to the Employee (from previous steps, on the User’s Punch Management tab on one of the Fingerprint ID lines on the web portal).
    4. After entering the ID press OK, confirm the ID and press OK again.
    5. Scan the Employee’s fingerprint by placing a thumb or finger on the scanning bed, pausing momentarily and releasing it. We are attempting to get the best possible image of as much of the fingerprint as possible to achieve an accuracy of 80% or higher (accuracy meter on screen).
    6. Repeat this until the registration succeeds (usually 3 times).
    7. When the screen displays a message that the print was successfully registered, press OK to upload it.
    8. The screen should display a message that the template was successfully uploaded. Press OK.
    9. From here you can either enter another Fingerprint ID and continue registering additional Employees or a backup fingerprint for the current Employee. Otherwise, press the ESC key to return to the main uAttend screen.
    10. Perform a punch with the newly registered fingerprint(s) to verify functionality by placing the finger on the scanner (just as in the registration process). The clock should say, “thank you” and confirm the punch with a message on the screen.

*Tip – If a Fingerprint Template has been registered at the time clock and is not yet assigned in the web portal, we can assign it to an Employee from the web portal as described on the previous steps or by following these alternate steps.:

    1. Log in to the uAttend web portal as an Administrator or Supervisor with Employee edit rights.
    2. Click on the Settings tab.
    3. Click on the Punch Management tab.
    4. Locate the clock that the Fingerprint Template was created on.
    5. Click ASSIGN USERS to the right of the line for that time clock.
    6. Locate the Fingerprint ID and select the appropriate Employee from the drop down to the right of the ID number.
    7. Click Save
    8. Perform a punch with the newly registered fingerprint(s) to verify functionality by placing the finger on the scanner (just as in the registration process). The clock should say, “thank you” and confirm the punch with a message on the screen.

IMPORTANT: Our time clocks use an advanced fingerprint sensor. Despite the quality of the sensor, there is a segment of the population with fingerprints that will not record. These users can still use the time clocks to punch in and out by using a PIN. For more information, see Setting Up Users for PIN Punching.

Transferring a Fingerprint ID to another Time Clock

    1. Log in to the uAttend web portal as an Administrator or Supervisor.

    6. Click Submit, toward the bottom of the window.
    7. Note the steps displayed, toward the top of the window, describing the next steps.
    8. Repeat these steps to transfer templates to additional clocks or proceed to the next step.
    9. Go to the time clock, press the Menu button, enter the password and press OK. (53178 by default. If changed to an unknown password, reset to default following this path on the clock : MENU (31468912) - User Management - Change Password)
    10. Select User Management by pressing OK.
    11. Using the arrow keys, navigate to Template Management and press OK.
    12. Press OK to select Download Templates.
    13. The screen should display a confirmation of the number of templates downloaded to the clock. Press OK.
    14. Repeat steps 9-13 at additional clocks for all templates submitted during steps 1-8.

*Note - Fingerprint template transfers will not work from older model time clocks (BN3000/BN4000) to newer model time clocks (BN6000/BN6500). Employees will have to re-register their fingerprints on the newer model time clocks to punch in using fingerprint scanner.

    * Troubleshooting Tips – If an Employee is attempting to punch at a time clock, using their registered fingerprint, and receiving an error message; follow these steps.:

    1. Ensure the clock is connected to a network, with a stable internet access, and that it displays “System Ready”, in green text, on the screen.
    2. On the web portal, navigate to the Employee’s Punch Management tab and insure the correct 6-digit fingerprint ID is displayed on one of the Fingerprint ID lines.
    3. If there is not a 6-digit fingerprint ID on any of the fingerprint ID lines, repeat the steps for Assigning a Fingerprint ID in the Web Portal.
    4. When an assigned ID is paired with a registered template, an image of a fingerprint will be displayed to the left of the 6-digit fingerprint ID. If there is not an image of a fingerprint displayed to the left of the ID, repeat the steps for Registering a Fingerprint ID at the Time Clock.
    5. If there is an image of a fingerprint displayed to the left of the 6-digit fingerprint ID, the registration may have been a poor quality. You can simply assign a different 6-digit number on one of the remaining 5 fingerprint ID lines and use it to register a different finger, repeating the processes outlined from the beginning of this article.
    6. In order to re-register the same fingerprint with the same 6-digit number, the existing template will have to be removed from all time clocks on the portal.
    7. Log in to the uAttend web portal as an Administrator or Supervisor with Employee edit rights.
    8. Click on the Users tab.
    9. Click on Manage Fingerprint Templates.
    10. From the drop down, select the time clock from which you will delete the template.
    11. Click the red X to the right of the Employee Template you wish to delete from the account and all clocks attached to the account and confirm the command to delete the template from the account.

Click to go to the Deleting Fingerprint Templates Help File

    1. Repeat the processes outlined from the beginning of this article.
